Mirror Mirror

She quietly drops her lunch into the dog's dish again,
Walks into the house, chips for dinner again.
Clears the table of empty bottles, tears start to fall,
Sit's in the corner quietly, after banging her head off the wall.

"It's been a hard day baby", comes the welcome from the other room,
"It's just till I get over this bad patch, I swear that'll be soon".
She knows the stories that are about to be said,
Chapter after chapter, read and re-read.

Slips upstairs turns the radio on, sits by the window sill,
Car's, buses life below, life that won't stand still.
An Ambulance siren in the distance, not too far away,
Curtains pulled mechanically, as night envelopes the day.

Tears shed religiously on a pillow case tonight,
The world behind a locked door, pain without sight.

Tonight dream of yesterday, keep those brown eyes shinning,
I'll light a candle for you in the wind.
But can you ever pour it out, when there's so much within?

Keep searching for that ray of hope;
Searching yet not finding.

Wakes up puts on old clothes, 5 sizes too large,
2 aces and 2 eight dealt, God knows you have to play those cards.
"You've lost a lot of weight" reassuringly an old friend says,
Laugh back politely "I'm on a diet these days".

"Keep the good work up, your looking great",
Smiles and agrees, the games over checkmate,
She quietly drops her lunch into the dog's dish again,
Walks into the house, chips for dinner again.
